Frequently Asked Questions
Got questions? I've got answers. Here are the things people most commonly ask before reaching out - I hope they help you feel confident taking that first step.
What happens in the first session? Our first session is a relaxed introduction - a chance for us to get to know each other, for you to share what's been going on, and for me to understand how I can best support you. There's no pressure, no formal assessments, and no expectation to share anything you're not ready to. Just a warm, comfortable conversation.
How does online counselling work? Sessions are conducted via Google Meet. All you need is a phone, tablet or computer with a stable internet connection and a quiet, private space. I'll send you the session link 5 minutes before we start. Online counselling is just as effective as in-person, and many clients actually find it easier to open up from the comfort of their own home.
How much does it cost? Sessions are $125 for a 60-minute session and $65 for a 30-minute session. A free 15-minute discovery call is available for all new clients so you can get a feel for how I work before committing to anything.
Is counselling confidential? Yes, everything discussed in sessions is completely confidential, in line with the ACA Code of Ethics. The only exceptions are situations where there is risk of serious harm to yourself or others, or where I am legally required to disclose and I will always discuss this with you openly if it arises.
How many sessions will I need? Every person is different. Some people find 4-6 sessions incredibly helpful, while others benefit from longer term support. We'll discuss this together after your first session and create a plan that suits your goals and circumstances. There's no lock-in, you're in control of your journey.
My child is nervous about talking to a counsellor. Is that normal? Completely normal! Most young people feel nervous before their first session and that's okay. I work specifically with children, teens and young adults and I know how to make the process feel safe, easy and non-threatening. Many kids are surprised by how comfortable they feel once we get chatting.
Do I need a referral or Mental Health Treatment Plan? No referral is needed to see me. You can book directly without seeing a GP first. While I don't currently bulk bill under Medicare, my fees are kept accessible and a free discovery call is always available to get started.
What if it's not the right fit? That's completely okay. Finding the right counsellor is important and I want you to feel comfortable. If after our first session you feel we're not the right match, there's no obligation to continue. I'd rather you find the right support than stay out of obligation.
What age groups do you work with? I work with children, teens, young adults, and adults. I have a particular passion for supporting younger people — especially those experiencing anxiety, low confidence, shyness, and motivation challenges.
