What if our number one need in life is aligned with God's main purpose for our life?
Our Need: We all need and want to be/feel loved, valued and appreciated, like we belong and are cared for, understood, seen and heard - there's a deep desire within us for this connection with others.
What about God's purpose for our lives?
Do you want to fulfil and live in alignment with God's purpose over our lives? Then we have to ask the question: Why did God create you, why did God create any of us?
God created us so that He could love us
(1 John 4:8) God is love
(1 John 4:19) We love Him because He first loved us.
The pleasure of love lies in loving others.
My purpose: therefore is to learn to let God love me!
Out of His love for us, our worship, serving, evangelizing, "doing" flows. (Not the other way around).
This has sat on my heart for a while. I have been in a season trying to figure out what my next step should be - with finding work and setting up my private practice on the side. I would say I was in a chronic state of anxiety. But I had my moments of calm everytime I journaled my hearts desires to God. All I could hear back was "seek first My kingdom" - not knowing how - I got stuck in the pattern of 'doing', again. Then all I could hear was "sit and worship", little did I know that in that space God was sitting with me and embracing me. He was inviting me to sit with Him so that He could love me. He was showing me His goodness, and comfort, He was reminding me of His faithfulness. And from that space of resting in His presence and goodness, my worship flowed.
We get so caught up in trying to do all these things life 'requires' of us. But God wants a relationship with us. He wants to spend time with us. He wants to embrace us and care for us. He made us so that he could love us! If we are too busy to spend time with God, then we have more on your schedule than He ever purposed for us.
This simple act of sitting with God has an influence over every area of life. It will impact how you show up to your career, in your relationships, your emotional health, your influence, experiences, and enjoyment!
"But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you. Do not be anxious about tomorrow, for today has enough troubles of its own.'
(Matthew 6:33-34)
